RECOVERY Oral Piercing Rinse



  • Leave the bandage on for approximately 2 hours (unless using Saniderm/Recovery DermShield)

  • Wash hands thoroughly before removing the bandage

  • After removing the bandage, wash the tattoo gently with anti-bacterial soap, water, and your hand (NO WASH CLOTH)

  • Pat dry with a clean towel/paper towel

  • After drying, apply a THIN layer of Aquaphor or protective ointment


  • Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor/protective ointment to the clean tattoo 2-3 times per day until the tattoo for approximately 3-5 days

  • By the end of the first week, your tattoo may start peeling. DO NOT PICK AT IT! Let the skin heal naturally!

  • Switch to a color-free, unscented lotion 2-3 times per day for about 2 weeks

  • Avoid contact with anything that can introduce your healing tattoo to harmful bacteria or unnecessary trauma 

  • Remember to:

        -wear loose-fitting clothing while healing

        -clean your bedding and towels often

        -wash hands prior to cleaning/applying lotion

  • After your tattoo is healed, use sunblock to protect it from direct sunlight (failure to do so can result in fading and discoloration)


    • including pools, baths, hot tubs, open bodies of water


  • Avoid touching your piercings unless cleaning it

  • Wash your hands prior to cleaning

  • Do not remove jewelry unless necessary; the piercing site will start to close making it difficult to replace jewelry

  • Clean your piercing with 1-2 X’s a day with

    • Sterile saline solution + cotton swab for body piercings

    • Sterile saline mouth rinse for oral piercings

  • DO NOT use rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Bactine, soap, or ointments for cleaning

  • Avoid anything that can cause trauma to your fresh piercing

  • Keep yourself healthy & hydrated for optimal healing

  • Wear clean, loose-fitted clothing and wash bedding/towels often

  • Do not submerge or soak your new piercing (baths, pools, hot tubs, ocean/lake water). Showering is safe.
